Basic Timing Setup

Proper timing for barrel racing is to have the timing line prior to the barrels. The Lightning AccuTimers setup is shown below (barrels are the orange circles) where the master detector/timer is always put across the start-finish line and

B defines a beacon and

D defines a detector.

Single start-finish line (classic) measurement

Using the above setup, Lightning AccuTimers will provide accurate barrel race times.

Interval Timing Setup

Interval timing for barrel racing also measures the time around each barrel. For the Lightning AccuTimers system, the setup would look like below where

B defines a beacon and

D defines a detector.

Interval (advanced) timing measurement

Uaing the above setup, Lightning AccuTimers will provide accurate barrel race times plus interval times as each barrel beam-break is crossed (essentially when each barrel turn is started and completed). This is the best way to find out where you are losing time and then increase your speed.
